70 years in the making

It’s 70 years in 2021 since George Seward purchased the Kingswood apartment next door to the town’s Brine baths.

Almost seven decades later, and a lot has changed physically, yet the same core beliefs and foundations that George and his wife Madge set in place are still practiced and all these years later.

Now under the supervision of the 4th generation of the Seward family (George’s great great nephew, Tom) & their friendly family of staff. The Kingswood & Devoran (merged in 2009) are now one beautifully presented and comfortable seaside hotel.

A modern take on classic hospitality, with all the home comforts, plus, gorgeous public spaces and personal, caring service. All based in the centre of Sidmouth’s regency esplanade – what’s not to love.

Next door, The Elizabeth offers contemporary seaside bedrooms and sea facing dining. Light, spacious laid back public spaces are home to lush house plants and comfy furniture. Local drinks and home cooked classics are on offer all day.

Dukes is a true Sidmouth mainstay – synonymous with the town’s historic esplanade, it is loved by the Sid valley community and visitors alike. Our offering of rooms, coffee, breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks, all in an enviable seafront location, make it a truly modern seaside inn. The 13 en-suite rooms provide the perfect base for exploring the surrounding Jurassic Coast world heritage site, or simply relaxing in a striped deckchair on the prom.
